Pole Barns06/12/2006
Many farmers are familiar with pole barns as a standard choice as a building for storage or as an inexpensive animal shelter solution. However before purchasing pole barns there are a few things to look into in the quality of the construction materials used. Be wary of manufacturers that advertise only a zinc coating as it has been known to oxidize, change to dark grey and finally to rust, wasting your hard earned dollars. Zinc fastener’s will also rust and will void your warranty so this is also something to check before committing to an order with a company.
Pole barns are sometimes improperly built with what is called an R panel roof this type of roof should be avoided at all costs as the sheeting will only go about one third of the way into the corrugation and this is not far enough to protect you from leakage. The roofing panels should extend all the way to the bottom of the corrugation to prevent this annoying and costly defect. Look at the length of time in your dealer’s guarantee; it should be well over twenty years, if it is substantially less you should be looking further before making your purchase.
